Masters of Bio- Technology and Bio- Informatics

This is a unique laboratory-based course that provides individuals with the broad range of skills required to flourish in the rapidly developing field of biotechnology. The course has a strong research focus, comprising 50% coursework and 50% research thesis.

Work towards the thesis will typically include: database mining and analysis of properties of eh putative protein; cDNA cloning into expression and reporter vectors (bacterial and mammalian); protein expression in E. coli and mammalian cells in culture; purification and characterisation of recombinant proteins; and functional characterisation of proteins.

Each student is assigned a scientific mentor. The mentor will have a keen interest in the subject of the student's thesis and help guide and advance the project.
